New student website
Kirk Layton, a student on Bournemouth University's Foundation Degree in Graphics and Packaging, has published the last project he did for me, his own portfolio site. Featuring his own design work and a somewhat unhealthy interest in Golf GTi's, it's definitely worth a look. I know he's keeping it updated and it's a great place to have a look at some upcoming talent. Email me with what grade you think I should give him! The site is www.shadepioneer.co.ukDesign the front cover
Well done Rosie Hanmer for making and sending our first guest cover! Rosie is just 11 years old and made this great fun image using just Paint! Thanks, Rosie. It's up for a month as promised. Butterfly Conservation - Play and Learn
National
conservation charity Butterfly Conservation
launched a new Play & Learn section on
their website at their 40th Anniversary Open Day. I am delighted to
have provided a series of games
for
the new site, which you can visit here.
The new content uses Flash multimedia technology and colourful cartoony design to help teachers and children develop their knowledge and understanding of butterflies, moths and their habitats. The new content was launched by Minister for Schools, the Right Hon. Jim Knight MP, Chief Executive of Butterfly Conservation, Dr. Martin Warren and Sir Martin Doughty, Chairman of Natural England.
Mr Knight said he was really impressed with the website. "It's engaging for children and it's a useful resource for teachers in schools."
He enjoyed playing the website's games and said: "I really can envisage children learning about different types of butterflies through these games."
Dr. Warren adds, "I am sure you will like to join me in thanking Nigel Spring (education co-ordinator) for all his excellent work as well as Karl Rawstrone (twodotsinacircle), who produced the fun Play and Learn games. The site has been tested by local schools and has proved very popular with children and teachers alike."

Computer Love - great design blog. Auditorium - possibly the most beautiful flash game ever. Pretty Loaded - a museum of preloaders!Sport in Schools
My eight
year relationship
with the Education Department of the London Borough of
Hounslow continues with the production of DVDs
promoting National
School Sports Week 2008 and Hounslow Primary
Schools Sports Day 2008.
In the former event, Physical Education Coordinators Pete
Lammas
and Alan Watkinson brought
together pupils from Hounslow and surrounding boroughs for a week of
exciting activities including archery, fencing, kendo and gymnastics. The latter event is an ear-splitting day of races themed around a variety of sports. The primary pupils of the borough compete for cherished trophies in a spirit of fair play and inclusion, with the borough's special needs pupils fully represented.
The events are supported by organisations including Sport Impact, England Fencing and Grasshoppers Rugby Club and attended by special guests Ade Adepitan and the Sportsround team.
PE
Advisor,
Pete Lammas says, "On
behalf of all of the schools in Hounslow I would like to congratulate
Karl on the quality of the films he has produced over the
years. They manage to capture
the vibrant atmosphere of the events in such a
way that people who did not attend were able to feel a part of the
activities that took place.
The quality of editing is first class with different aspects of the
events being linked seamlessly but more importantly with continuity.
The projects are always completed on time but not before consultation
has taken place to finalise sequences and formats.
These films have become a vital element in the advocacy work that I do
in terms of promoting inclusive PE and school sport, event management
and high quaity PE and competition in our schools."
